Galerie G is located on the 1st floor of
ancient burghers residence named „U bílé růže“ (The House of the White
Rose) on the splendid walkway between the most significant town squares named „Horní
náměstí“ and „Dolní
náměstí“ („Upper“ and
„Lower“ square were mentioned already in medieval chronicles as Forum superior and Forum inferior). The history of this building, actually covered by a façade in rococo style, has its roots in the medieval urbanization. Inside the building we can find several post gothic and renaissance architectonical elements, ribbed and cross vaults, portals and others. From the renaissance period comes as well the polychrome wooden ceiling in the entry room of the gallery. This, together with another ornamental polychrome ceiling at the main saloon, gives to exposition spaces an exceptional atmosphere. During the years 1966 - 1993 this institution was called „Kabinet Grafiky“ (Cabinet of Graphic) and it worked like an important show room of the Museum of Arts of Olomouc. Since 1993, the Union of Visual Artists of Olomouc builds up its activities in this gallery. After the 1998, the new-named “Galerie G” became - especially in esthetical and technical sense - one of the most attractive in whole Moravia.
